Tax Residency Certificates
When registering a UK or Cyprus company, some
overseas fiscal authorities may require a ‘Tax Residency Certificate’, issued by the local tax authorities, indicating that the company is indeed resident in that jurisdiction
for tax purposes and has paid its Corporation Tax in
that jurisdiction.
This is in order that the UK or Cyprus Company may legitimately avoid ‘Double Taxation’, provided an appropriate Double Tax Agreement is in place between that country and the respective country concerned.
Many of our clients benefit from the registration of Cyprus resident companies and obtaining such a certificate for their local tax authorities. So long as the company is registered as a Cyprus resident company, obtaining such a certificate is a very straight-forward process and takes 3-4 days.
However, other clients who register UK companies may be aware how difficult it can be sometimes to obtain the necessary certificate from the UK tax authorities, and that obtaining tax residency certification is by no means guaranteed upon application.
Ancroft have considerable experience regarding this process and have been reasonably successful in obtaining tax residency certificates for UK companies.
